The young woman whose disappearance during an October 17 Metallica concert touched off a national search was last seen on a bridge around 9:30 that night near busy Ivy Road. The information came in a Wednesday morning press conference in Charlottesville in which State Police Lieutenant Joe Rader expressed hope that a newly detailed timeline would provoke additional clues from concert-goers and other witnesses.
“Perhaps you saw someone stop a vehicle,” said Rader. “Perhaps you saw this young lady get into a vehicle. Somewhere out there lie the answers or lies the vital link.”
Rader described the timeline, pieced together from witness interviews, as fairly accurate, but he noted that it changed within the 30 minutes before the press conference began— and that it remains subject to further refinement, particularly since some witnesses were not wearing watches.
“We believe that what happened from 8:30 to 9:30 is very relevant,” Rader said, adding that subsequent info is also important. “Nothing is too trivial. If you think you saw something, let us determine after interviewing you the relevancy of that.”
Rader said that Harrington was last seen walking on the bridge that carries Copeley Road over the CSX/Buckingham Branch railroad tracks, a site adjacent to the RV Lot. The Lot is where Harrington’s black purse with two long straps was found, and Rader indicated there were other people nearby who must have seen Morgan.

“We need those people to contact us,” said Rader. “We don’t have all the information we need from the Charlottesville area. We believe those answers are around here.”
The dominant use of the rail line running under the bridge is the slow— at least in that stretch— westbound return of empty coal and grain cars returning from Tidewater ports, although the line is also used for the three-days-a-week run of the Cardinal passenger train.
Declining to answer questions, Rader also qualified the following timeline as based on interviews with people who saw someone matching Harrington’s description near the John Paul Jones Arena, which reportedly adhered to its no-reentry policy by barring Harrington after she left, ostensibly in search of a bathroom.

Ex FBI Profiler Greg McCary Profiles Morgan Harrington Case for WTVR 1/28/10 on Video

Profiling Has Many Faces: Behavioral, Forensics, and Even Geographical

Radell Hunter
Ex FBI Profiler Greg McCary profiled Morgan Harrington for WTVR on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010.
With over 25 years in the FBI, ex FBI Profiler Greg McCary gives his take on the Morgan Harrington homicide and offers tips on what type of person he
thinks the suspect pool should include.

The 700-acre Anchorage Farm, owned by David Bass, was the scene of another day of activity today. State police personnel combed the area to complete their crime scene investigation and processing ahead of the bad weather front expected this weekend.

And as important as it is to secure and process all evidence at the scene, especially as snow is anticipated in the days ahead, it is also important to consider the relevance of where Morgan Harrington's body was actually dumped on the farm--and why there.

Ex FBI Profiler Weighs In on The Case

Ex FBI Profiler Greg McCary offered the television station WTVR his take on Morgan's body being dumped at this particular site, saying that this reflected on the killer's comfort zone.

McCary, who undoubtedly was tutored to some extent by John Douglas and others of his ilk in the FBIspecial profiling unit, hit the nail on the head: the killer knew enough about Anchorage Farm, and the community of residents that surround it (a very small number in the immediate vicinity) to choose it as a remote-enough site to dump Morgan there.

And McCary had more to say on the matter, including the fact that he doesn't believe Morgan went willingly with her abductor or abductors. Instead, McCary believes that Morgan either had a change of heart in going with her killer, or she never planned to go with him, or them, in the first place.

The Anchorage Farm's owner David Bass told newsreporters on site, previously, that he didn't see how any evidence could be gathered from the little that remained of Morgan that was found or how what little was found could help much in the investigation.

But McCary dispelled that thougth process quickly, stating that "Investigators can discover a great deal from discovering a body, even when it is badly decomposed." For a better understanding of just how that
takes place, read the article Cause and Time of Death of Morgan Harrington: How ME Will Determine Both.

McCary is expected to share additional details he thinks are important for police to consider when narrowing down a potential suspect pool. Morgan Harrington Murder: Rumors Of A Suspects Arrest

Posted by Blink | Alex Harrington,Amy Melvin,Dan Harrington,Gil Harrington,Morgan Harrington,Murdered,Sara Snead | Thursday 28 January 2010 3:11 pm
Charlottesville, VA– This afternoon, originating on a VT Athletics Site rumors clogged the web that a suspect was placed under arrest for the murder of Morgan Harrington. After my 20th comment in 10 minutes and 12th email inquiry about it, I went to the source.
Crime scene
..There has been no arrest. It is an unfounded rumor and I have no idea how or where it started. I can only assume it stemmed from the fact that we completed our investigation of the crime scene at Anchorage Farm early this afternoon, I guess I will probably have to put out an email this afternoon..”
– Corrine Geller, PR Manager for VSP to Blink
As exclusively reported yesterday on blinkoncrime.com, it is expected that the  and VSP upcoming conversations with those on the list with permission to hunt on Anchorage Farm, will propel the investigation into the murder of Morgan Harrington quickly.
However, Virginia State Police are not discussing whether or not they have a person of interest or suspect in this case.
There is however, unreleased new information and new evidence gleaned from the crime scene. VSP will not disclose what personal effects were found with Morgan’s remains at this time.
The viral arrest rumor was not the only odd occurrance today.
In what appears to be an unrelated coincidence, an explosive device was detinated on the train tracks close to James Madison University this morning. A nearby dorm has been evacuated in connection with materials found at the scene, and a criminal investigation has been launched by the ATF.
JMU is the school several of Morgan’s friends attend, and from where the group departed to attend the Metallica Concert that fateful night of October 17, 2009.

Abemarle County, VA– On the 100 acre parcel of the over 700 acre farm owned by Nancy and David Bass where Morgan Harrington’s remains were recovered yesterday, there may be clues of the furry variety that lead to the identity of Morgan’s murderer.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a source inside the investigation has told blinkoncrime.com that questions raised here regarding private deer hunting on the farm have been verified by Virginia State Police.
Anchorage Farm owners do allow some private hunting members and maintains a list of those individuals permitted to do so.
From the time Morgan disappeared and presumably ended up in the hayfield, both archery and firearm deer seasons were in full swing.
Big Brother, or in this case Uncle Buck, was watching.

Blink, what is that ugly azz thing you say?
It might be sweet Morgan’s Ruth Cooper.

Not to be outdone: The Moultrie Game Spy, which you can use to watch your prey like a surveillance screen in real time.
This is another example of the varieties that were in place the night of October 17th.
Morgan was found in a field, almost smack dab in the middle of surrounding tree line’s loaded with tree stands and tree cameras.
She was found without her camera and necklace; both of which have not been located to date.
VSP has been provided the list of known hunters at Anchorage Farm, and are in the process of interviewing them.

Morgan Harrington Case: Separating Fact From Fiction Part I

Posted by Blink | Missing Persons,Morgan Harrington | Thursday 19 November 2009 2:48 pm
Charlottesville, VA– Just passing the month mark, the disappearance of Morgan Harrington from the John Paul Jones Area located on the UVA campus, leaves us with more questions than answers.
Morgan prom dress
The lack of clarity and verifiable, factual accounts regarding the day Morgan seemed to vanish is staggering.
In an attempt to sift through the garble and streamline information to progress her case; we visit the list of inconsistencies.
The Purse And Cell
PoliceLog1
I am at an utter loss as from what I can tell, there is a report of a purse S T O L E N from a vehicle from the Park section of the lot minutes after Morgan is allegedly seen at the opposite end of the campus. This appears to occur at 9:30PM, however the report indicates the theft occurs at 5:38 PM.
This call status ends up suspended, but when? Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a UVAPD insider expressed shock when I called it to their attention. “That almost never happens” I was told.
Could it be connected to what happened to Morgan?PoliceLog3
Could this call to Campus Police be the reason they are asking if anyone knows if she borrowed someone else’s cell? If that call came directly from a blue box phone, it dials directly to UVAPD.
Do they suspect this was Morgan?
Adding to the above obvious confusion, Morgan’s purse was not found in the Lanigan Lot as stated. Included in the UVAPD’ s own logs, it was found in the CAGE lot, which is on the opposite side of Copley Rd than the Lanigan Lot and accessible for parking only by athletes and UVA Athletics Donors such as season ticket holders.
UVAbbmap-1

According to Corrine Geller, VSP, they lose contact with Morgan, based on sightings and cell phone activity at that exact time; 9:30 PM. According to Gil Harrington, Morgans’s mom, there is some texting to an undisclosed individual that ceases at 9:20 with no further activity on her phone.
We know that Morgan interacted with UVA basketball players in this area, which through their spokesperson, refuse to comment on exactly which players were involved.

Newspaper Delivery Lady “Parson”
“I know what I saw,” says Norma Parson, a newspaper delivery woman who believes she saw Morgan– or an incredible lookalike— coming out of a room on UVA’s West Lawn at 3:45am October 18, six hours after the last confirmed sighting on Copeley Bridge.
“She was tall and thin,” says Parson, who says the woman’s high black boots had heels making her appear taller than Morgan’s reported height of 5’6&Prime and that she wasn’t wearing the black hose or tights police have described.
“I thought, ‘What’s she doing out here dressed like that,’” Parson recalls. When she learned of Harrington’s disappearance two days later and saw photographs of heavy mascara- and eyeliner-wearing Morgan, “I knew immediately it was the same girl I saw,” says Parsons, who credits art training for teaching her to examine facial details— even those she sees in passing. “I never had a moment’s doubt,” she insists.
Ms. Parsons seems to be somewhat upset that LE is not taking her tip seriously. Could it be that in the interest of disclosure if you have a relative working in the art department on staff of “The Hook” it is good to lead with that information if your concerned about credibility. I am not implying Ms. Parson does not believe her statement, but readers should be made aware if someone is an employee of their paper.

MISSING MORGAN: ‘And Then She Was Gone’ Morgan Harrington Vanishes from Metallica Concert

Charlottesville, VA– Morgan Harrington, 20, a striking blonde junior at Virginia Tech has seemingly vanished.
Morganvt
On Saturday October 17th at 8:48PM, BF to Morgan, Sara Snead, spoke with her friend for the last time.
Turn The Page
Morgan with pup
By all accounts, Morgan Dana Harrington is a regular girl, with irregular charm and beauty. Out of “The 9”,  the name she and her 8 bff’s called their clique, she was the one to wear red to their Sr. Prom when the rest of them chose to wear white.
The daughter of Medical executives Dr. Dan and Gilbert (French Canadian pronounced Jil -Bare) Harrington; Morgan is an education major in her junior year at VT.
Morgan proudly displayed her Metallica tickets on the family Sub Zero a full 6 months prior to that Saturday’s concert. A few days before the event, Morgan brought 3 outfits home to try on for Mom’s feedback and approval.
“She was excited about the concert,” Gil announced to Nancy Grace, “and she brought home three outfits that she tried on for me. We chose one, and she said, ‘Mama, it is a rock concert, so it is probably not what you would choose, but is this one okay?’ It was cute, and she was covered, and I said, ‘That will do fine.’”< ?xml:namespace prefix ="" o />
“You know,” adds the mother– aware that her daughter’s attire has come under fire– “you have to give your kid wings.”
“Ms. Harrington,” replied Grace, “you did something right because there are not a lot of 20-year-olds who would ask their mom what they thought of the outfit she was wearing to a concert.”
When Morgan and Amy Melvin, roomie at VT in their off campus BlacksburgMordrinkapartment arrived in Crozet to pick up Amy Snead and her boyfriend for the evenings event, Morgan called Dr. Harrington, or Poppa, as she affectionately called him, to notify her parents of their safe arrival.

She was due to study for her math test with him as well as reconcile her check book she had recently overdrawn, at noon the following day. When morgan did not show Dr and Mrs. Harrington began calling her friends.

Nothing Else Matters

Like most missing persons cases of young adults, Morgan was thought to potentially be a runaway. Her own parents in an effort to reduce their building panic considered perhaps she had met a new boy and was extending the weekend. They wish she had.

Morgan and friendIt is unclear why Morgan’s friends did not report her missing when they arrived back in Crozet and Morgan’s car was there along with her keys, untouched. But what is clear, is Morgan’s family and friends are no longer mincing words; they believe Morgan was abducted and has met with foul play.

The UnforgivenMorgan prom dress

There is a saying in missing persons cases initial analysis:

Start the clock backwards from the discovery of your best evidence.

Unfortunately, the best evidence in this case was not discovered as tied to a missing persons case; Morgan’s purse, wallet and cell phone found the morning of the 18th were given to local Police as a property recovery.

What your thinking is accurate. Any prints, DNA, compromised.

However, the cell phone had the battery removed. H U G E.

Who dumps a purse and a cell at the verifiable last location of a victim?
Someone familiar with cell pings and tracking, and someone who wants you to think this a local and random act.

The Day That Never Comes

UVcampus2What do we know? The VA State Police has issued what they feel to be, a credible timeline of the evenings events after the group is in the venue.

8:30 p.m. – Outside John Paul Jones Arena
8:48 p.m. – Friend called Morgan’s cell phone
9:00 p.m. – Seen in University Hall parking lot adjacent to JPJ
9:10 p.m. – Near Davenport Field RV Park and UVA Track
9:20 p.m. – On Copeley Bridge near intersection with Ivy Road
Rader says, “We know we don’t have all the information there is in Charlottesville about this case.”
He urges anyone who saw anything outside the Metallica concert between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. to call police. Police are concentrating on what happened outside the arena.
Around 8:30 p.m., witnesses saw someone matching Morgan description at the ticket counter outside JPJ, trying to get back in the concert after she ended up outside.
At 8:48 p.m., a friend of Morgan’s inside the arena called her on her cell phone asking if she was OK. Morgan apparently told her friend not to worry as she was going to get a ride from friends in Charlottesville.
Around 9 p.m., witnesses saw Morgan walking and carrying her black purse with backpack straps in the parking lot outside University Hall.
Ten minutes later, Morgan made her way to the RV parking area near the UVA track. On the night of the concert, that area would have been filled with RVs.
Witnesses saw Morgan there around 9:10 p.m., but they said they left about ten minutes later, leaving her in the parking area alone. The morning after the concert, a passerby found Morgan’s purse on the ground.
The last known sighting of Morgan Harrington was on the Copeley Road bridge near Ivy Road at 9:30 p.m.
Police believe people driving or walking along the bridge must have seen Morgan after that time. They believe she may have gotten into a car.
“Perhaps you saw someone stop a vehicle to discuss something with this young lady. That would be important. Perhaps you saw this lady get into a vehicle. That would be important,” says Rader.
The new time line explains why police spent so much time in the Copeley Road area looking for clues. Now, they’re revealing where she was with the hope that someone will know where she is.
Morgan’s parents did not appear the Wednesday news conference, but have said they believe she was taken by a stranger and that foul play was involved.
Police are asking any witnesses to come forward. They say every detail counts, and since the Copeley bridge is well traveled on Saturday nights, they hope to jog people’s memories of the night of October 17.
People can submit tips anonymously by calling the Virginia State Police at 434-352-3467.

Just When you thought this case could not get more complicated, It does.

15 minutes from campus, in August of this year, a double murder in Caldwell Fields camp grounds.

Note the striking similarity between the two women.

David Meltzer, 19, and Heidi Childs, 18 were brutally murdered in the parking lot of a well known camp ground, ostensibly, while they were parking.
I am not the only one making this connection.

As we go to press, the body of a deceased woman is found in York County, SC. It is not known at this time if it is related to the case of Morgan Harrington.

*UPDATE*
The body found does not appear to be Morgan, but a young woman with dark hair and dark eyes.
